Hamilton Golf & Country Club

Hamilton Golf & Country Club

Project Overview

As one of Canada’s top-ranked golf courses, Hamilton Golf & Country Club sets a high bar for member experience and grounds maintenance. Their team approached Clarity for a series of video advertisements for hiring and staff recruitment.

Challenge

The video marketing project with HGCC presented a number of challenges.  First, they wanted videos for both grounds maintenance and hospitality services, both of which required shooting staff in action and in close quarters.

Second, shooting of the video was time-sensitive; we needed to shoot while early morning maintenance was being done, and while hospitality services were prepping for guests.  We also needed to be in a variety of locations quickly, particularly to capture maintenance staff in-action doing various tasks, to help applicants see what working at HGCC is truly like.

Lighting was another challenge for the shoot.  The filming not only needed to look great to match the prestige of the course, it also had to be consistent despite constant lighting changes from sunrise until noon.

Solution

We met with staff in several meetings to plan out a detailed shotlist and requirements for the shoot.

We then prepped our gear for a run-and-gun setup, and set a shoot calendar to be able to film in a way that was unobtrusive to staff yet still letting us capture details of their work.  For grounds maintenance, we first met the crews heading out of the maintenance area at dawn, then travelled the course by golf cart to capture various maintenance tasks as well as a gorgeous sunrise over the fairways.  At a later date, we captured bar, kitchen, and pro shop staff.

Finally, we returned for senior leader interview shoots in the Great Hall, capturing the history and character of HGCC.

Results

HGCC staff reported a 300% increase in applications compared to the previous year, and were able to fill their staffing needs with strong applicants.
